Computing

Intent

At St George’s, our vision is to embed computing in as many learning opportunities as possible. This will provide our children with concrete experiences of when and how they can use digital media in different aspects of their lives. Through stimulating and challenging experiences children will continue to develop their love for learning and through this become, confident and independent uses of a range of a range of software and hardware. In the ever-changing digital world, we aim to provide all children with not only the skills to use the technology that exists today, but the life-long thinking skills and passion to continue to develop their love for computing through St George’s and beyond. At our school, we promote digital citizenship through modelling how social media should be used responsibly with a strong focus on creating a good digital footprint.

A vital part of computing at St George’s C of E School is internet safety.  With children having access to the internet at a very young age, we aim to educate them appropriately with how to use the internet safely and effectively.  We promote internet safety every year and have whole-school focuses during safer internet week and encourage the children to use websites and games that are age appropriate.

Implementation

All children have access to iPads and laptops. Classrooms are equipped with state of the art fully interactive LCD Promethean boards.  Continuing CPD ensures that staff develop their skills and competencies to use equipment effectively.  As a school, we subscribe to Purple Mash, where they can develop coding skills, explore algorithms and networks, develop their understanding of the internet and learn about all other aspects of the computing curriculum. In addition, we provide opportunities for children to explore Microsoft Office, including formulas in Microsoft Excel and producing presentations with Microsoft Power Point.
